Over the last two months, I’ve been listening to Dr. Cal Newport’s book, Deep work: Rules for Focussed Success in a Distracted World, and I thought to share it with you.
What it boils down to, is that in today’s information economy, it’s easier than ever to get distracted from engaging in deep, meaningful work. This can be caused by the vibration of an instant message, the ding of an email, or a bored colleague hovering at your desk.
Newport argues that when you’re not engaging in Deep Work, it only leaves you to produce shallow work.
He continues by saying that the increase in shallow, distracted work, has lead to a low supply, and high demand for Deep Workers - making it a more valuableskill than ever.
I found the read fascinating. If you find the topic interesting too, you can learn more from his interview with Andrew Huberman.

Writing-out and assembling my reflections into story-formatted pieces to share with strangers on the internet, in the hopes that they may benefit from them, seems to bring me great joy.
If you enjoyed this piece and feel like supporting it, you can do so buying me a virtual coffee.
